Spaun wins DP World Tour title at Wentworth

What's happened

JJ Spaun has won the DP World Tour’s flagship event at Wentworth, finishing two strokes ahead of Manuel Elvira and Rory McIlroy. Spaun’s late surge and Elvira’s costly finish define a dramatic finale on a glowing autumn day in Surrey.

What's behind the headline?

Context

• Spaun’s victory continues a trend of American success at Wentworth, reinforcing the tournament’s openness to non-European winners.
• Elvira’s collapse on 18th, after a risk-laden lay-up into sand, underscores how final holes prove decisive in big events.

Implications

• Spaun’s win tightens the Race to Dubai standings and adds momentum as the PGA Tour- DP World Tour crossovers intensify this season.
• McIlroy’s strong finish keeps him in the mix for major titles and season-long honours.

Forecast

• Spaun’s form suggests he could be a factor in upcoming majors if he maintains this level; the UK fan base has grown stronger appreciation for his game.

How we got here

Spaun’s victory follows a long history of American winners at Wentworth. Elvira, seeking his first pro win, finished second after a costly double-bogey finish. McIlroy and Rai also contributed strong rounds, and the event serves as a key lead-in to the Presidents Cup.
