How we got here

The Cairngorms wildfire began near Glenmore on 15 July, burning thousands of acres of moor and forest. RSPB Scotland reports severe damage to Loch Garten reserve and local habitats, while Police Scotland has declared a major incident. The response has included helicopters, volunteers and support from farmers and gamekeepers.
