A 19-year-old from the Rothbury area has been identified as Michael Henry after his kayak overturned near Boulmer on 7 July. He was found in the sea off Blyth on 26 July, more than two weeks after the incident. A second man who was with him was rescued by the coastguard. The police have prepared a report for the coroner and the family has paid tribute.
Oxfam shops have benefited from notable donations of rare memorabilia. A signed Paul McCartney book has sold for £950, while a Tolkien first edition Hobbit has raised £38,400. Donors remain unknown in at least some cases, but proceeds support Oxfam’s poverty relief and emergency appeals.
