Aichatou Sar Evans, American CEO of Zoox, leads Amazon’s self-driving unit after steering its 2020 acquisition. In 2025–26, Zoox wins its first commercial robotaxi fare exemption amid ongoing California self-driving regulation battles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has granted Zoox a two-year, $2,500-vehicle-per-year exemption from certain safety standards, enabling paid robotaxi rides in Las Vegas and other markets subject to state rules. The agency will oversee Zoox with enhanced reporting and may adjust conditions as the fleet expands.
