The Fair Work Commission has issued a minimum standards order for on-demand gig workers, set to take effect on 17 August. Workers will receive a guaranteed minimum hourly rate (between A$31.30 and A$32 depending on vehicle type) for engaged time, plus required personal accident insurance and maintained third-party cover by platforms. The move, praised by the TWU, Uber Eats, and DoorDash, expands protections for hundreds of thousands of gig workers.
