A barracuda (genus Sphyraena) is a large, predatory saltwater fish known for speed and ferocity.
Three separate ocean encounters have left swimmers injured on vacation: a shark bite in the Bahamas, and barracuda injuries in Turks and Caicos. A 69-year-old man required 26 stitches after a shark attack during a cruise snorkeling trip; a 13-year-old received injuries from a barracuda while in Turks and Caicos, prompting surgery to repair tendons. All victims are recovering.
