Norman commune and home of the tapestry
The Bayeux Tapestry has arrived in London for its first display on British soil in almost 1,000 years. The 70-metre wool-on-linen embroidery is being shown at the British Museum this September, after France agreed to loan it amid renovation at Bayeux. Tickets sold rapidly, with demand high for viewing through 2026 and 2027.
The 70-metre Bayeux Tapestry has opened at the British Museum and has drawn huge public demand and sell-out timed tickets. The loan from France followed a private preview attended by King Charles III and President Emmanuel Macron; the museum expects about 1 million visitors before the exhibition ends in July 2027.
The Bayeux Tapestry exhibition in London has opened to sold-out crowds, with a one-way viewing flow and a ban on photography to maintain visitor experience. The loan from France highlights cross-channel ties post-Brexit, and tickets run through December with more on sale in October.
