The prime minister has set out that any debate on assisted dying will proceed only after palliative and social care funding is fixed. Labour MP Lauren Edwards plans to push a private member’s bill for a second reading in September, arguing care reforms must come first and that the argument should continue with proper safeguards and funding.
A surgeon has been struck off after a botched emergency procedure at Royal Oldham Hospital left a patient in severe pain and reliant on a second operation to salvage bowel function. Tribunal finds the operation to connect the small intestine and stomach was “not compatible with life.”
