Ontario city at the head of the Bay of Quinte
A gunman has fired at a police officer outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville, Ontario, on Yom Kippur. Officers have returned fire; the suspect, identified as Sean Ward of Quinte West, has died in hospital. One officer has remained in hospital in stable condition. Ontario's Special Investigations Unit and Belleville police have opened probes.
