A bumblebee genus; eusocial pollinators facing climate pressures
The Bumblebee Conservation Trust has found that the UK’s bumblebee populations declined after the record heat of 2022, with Red-tailed, Buff-tailed and Common Carder bees dipping 20%, 25% and 35% respectively. The study links heat, drought, and dwindling nectar sources to reduced foraging and slower larval development. Queen numbers remain below average into 2023 as summer conditions worsen.
