Flash floods batter the Budhi Gandaki catchment; the river, a key Himalayan basin, faces disaster-linked risks as Nepal’s recovery continues.
A landslide has blocked the Budhi Gandaki River in Gorkha district, about 100km west of Kathmandu, and has sent a muddy flood downstream. Authorities have rescued at least 82 people and reported no confirmed deaths; five people remain missing. Army and police teams are conducting evacuations and monitoring the river by helicopter as officials warn downstream districts to move to safer ground.
