Apple has issued threat notifications in 110 countries about mercenary spyware attacks targeting high-profile individuals. The alerts urge recipients to take immediate steps, including enabling Lockdown Mode, updating devices, and seeking specialist help. The advisories come as expert groups note the growing reach and sophistication of government-linked spyware.
Citizen Lab and ad-security firm Confiant have found that Israeli ad-tech firm Discover-Tech has served malicious advertisements that directed millions of devices to spyware makers, including Candiru, and that the ads infected at least 45 Windows machines at Al Jazeera during 2024–25. Major ad platforms have begun removing Discover-Tech from their exchanges.
