On Dec. 13, Claudio Neves Valente, a former Brown University physics student, fatally shot two students and wounded nine others in Providence, Rhode Island. Two days later, he killed MIT professor Nuno Loureiro near Boston. Valente was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a New Hampshire storage facility on Dec. 18. Motive remains unknown.
The US has suspended its diversity visa lottery following the death of Claudio Neves Valente, a Portuguese national and suspect in a mass shooting at Brown University. Valente, who obtained a green card through the lottery in 2017, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot after the attack, which also linked to the killing of an MIT professor.
