Critics warn shortened degrees and cuts to specialist support for disabled students will narrow learning and harm future prospects.
New York City has imposed a one-year moratorium on student-facing generative AI for pre-K through eighth grade, affecting about 600,000 pupils, while high school students will receive twice-yearly AI literacy training and limited supervised pilots. The city has also set classroom screen-time caps and will review district technology to remove tools whose AI features cannot be disabled.
