French commune in Var, Provence-Alpes-Cosses-d'Azur (Occitan: Correnç)
Since mid-July, a series of fast-moving wildfires has scorched large areas of France and Spain, forcing hundreds of thousands to flee. French authorities have mobilised soldiers, masks and international firefighting aircraft as flames approach Bordeaux and fires burn near Paris, the Var and Fontainebleau. Extreme heat and drought have fuelled unusually early, violent fires.
UK farmers warn of a strained harvest as a dry, hot July tests crops; while growers embrace warmer English summers for wine, pressures on supplies and pricing rise. Wildfires in France threaten rosé quality; vineyards test batches and some produce may be unsellable. Across Europe, heat waves drive shifts in farming and food supply.
