Daniel Owen Conahan Jr., 72, has been executed by lethal injection in Florida for the 1996 kidnapping and murder of Richard Montgomery. The killings linked to a string of homicides, dubbed the Hog Trail Murders, spanned 1994–1997 in Charlotte County and Fort Myers. Authorities identified Conahan as a person of interest in other deaths, but he faced no charges in those cases. Florida leads executions this year among U.S. states.
