American MLB shortstop for the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs’ star third baseman has suffered facial fractures after a foul ball struck him in the face near the on-deck circle. He has undergone hospital checks and is expected to fly back to Chicago. Cubs are contending for a playoff spot with one wild-card game left.
The United States has drawn 2-2 with Spain in a pair of exhibition matches, with Spain taking an early 2-0 lead before Ashley Sanchez and Mallory Swanson levelled the contest. Spain remains world champions and has qualified for next year’s World Cup; the U.S. eyes qualification in Concacaf W Championship later this year.
