Canada is moving to table a petition to seek the expulsion of the US ambassador to Ottawa, Pete Hoekstra, arguing he has harmed bilateral ties and normalised threats to annex Canada as the “51st state.” The petition will be debated in Parliament this fall after gathering more than 160,000 signatures, well above the 500 required for discussion.
