American energy company producing and distributing electricity in the Deep South
The Department of Energy has begun lending up to $4.4 billion to restart three decommissioned U.S. nuclear plants—Palisades (Michigan), Three Mile Island (Pennsylvania), and Duane Arnold (Iowa)—to restore about 2.25 gigawatts of power. The move aims to deliver carbon-free electricity quickly, with contracts from Big Tech underpinning some plants. Critics warn safety and aging infrastructure are at risk as the Trump administration doubles down on nuclear energy.
