Open-access medical journal on epidemiology, surveillance and control of infectious diseases. News: MRSA outbreak linked to an eastern Ireland outdoor gathering, 2025.
Health officials have linked a cluster of MRSA skin infections to a fall 2025 outdoor event in eastern Ireland. About 120 attendees, including 47 who attended the event, were affected; most cases occurred within two days. Four children were hospitalized, none in intensive care, and all recovered. The source appears to be a rare, PVL-positive MRSA strain associated with prolonged close contact and wet conditions at a party featuring inflatables.
