British communist leader, General Secretary of the CPGB (1929–39, 1941–60)
Declassified MI5 files show Nye Bevan’s parliamentary activity and travels were closely watched from 1933 until his death in 1960. While the service suspected Communist links at times, it records nothing tapped and notes Bevan’s tame file after his death. New material also covers other intelligence cases ahead of royal events and among Soviet and German operatives.
