Russian governor and ex-army officer, Irkutsk Oblast
Nearly 200 people are under medical observation in Russia’s Irkutsk region after a laboratory worker died from a suspected plague. Authorities say pneumonia of unknown etiology is involved, with expanded testing showing no infection linked to the lab work. Officials are coordinating with international partners as cases are monitored and containment continues.
