Watt steps into CBS NFL lead-analyst vacancy as Romo faces leave after arrest; longtime Texans star and activist, now media presence.
CBS Sports has placed former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo on leave “until further notice.” JJ Watt will join Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson as CBS’s lead NFL team during Romo’s absence. Romo faces a Sept. 21 court date after Wisconsin authorities cited an open bottle and impairment at a July 23 stop on I-43.
Former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has had the case against him amended to include citations for open intoxicants, unsafe passing on the right and first-offense operating while intoxicated. He had previously been cited for refusing a sobriety test. CBS Sports and CBS affiliates report on the ongoing civil matter as Romo remains a leading NFL analyst.
J.J. Watt has been named the permanent lead analyst for CBS Sports’ NFL coverage, replacing Tony Romo. The deal comes after Romo’s departure earlier this month. Watt has been elevated from a temporary role to the top booth alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson, with production teams and players reacting to the change.
