Three horses were intentionally injured with a sharp object at a National Barrel Horse Association event in Las Vegas. A 17-year-old with access to the barn has been booked on 12 counts of animal maiming and three counts of property destruction. The horses are not expected to recover to compete soon.
San Carlos Lake has been closed indefinitely after drought conditions and water releases from the Coolidge Dam caused a mass fish kill, destroying the lake’s fish population. Officials warn of health risks and are prohibiting fishing, harvesting and possession of fish until further notice.
David Vander Meer, a former Las Vegas youth pastor, has been arrested on murder and insurance-fraud charges related to his wife Bernadette’s 2006 death on Angels Landing. Vander Meer has since died in custody ahead of a scheduled extradition hearing.
Sir Rod Stewart has undergone a routine coronary stent procedure and is taking four weeks to recover. Promoters say remaining US and Mexico dates are cancelled; he has resumed daily life and looks forward to returning to the stage.
