American football coach and former linebacker; head coach, New England Patriots (NFL)
Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez is in an ongoing contract negotiation with New England. Owner Robert Kraft has offered a historic deal to make Gonzalez the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history, with the contract reportedly under discussion as training camp proceeds. Gonzalez has participated in practice while negotiations continue.
Seattle has edged New England 13-10 on a banner-raising night, aided by Drew Lock’s late drives and a trio of Drake Maye fourth-quarter interceptions. Darnold exits early with a hip injury, but Seattle’s defense seals the win with a final-end zone pick.
Drake Maye has handed the New England Patriots a brutal reminder of a rough start to the season, following a 35-6 loss to Jacksonville. He has thrown two interceptions, fumbled twice, and benched in the fourth quarter as the team struggles with injuries, a porous run game, and questions about leadership. The Patriots head to Buffalo next, aiming to rebound.
