The Justice Department has reached a $400 million settlement with TikTok and ByteDance over alleged violations of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. TikTok will pay $300 million now and $100 million after a prior FTC consent decree is vacated. The deal requires stronger age controls and parental safeguards while avoiding further litigation or an admission of wrongdoing.
