India's statutory body protecting children's rights under CPCR Act 2005
India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has given Meta seven days to report on action taken after a BBC Eye investigation found Instagram ran paid ads promoting child sexual abuse material in India, linking to Telegram channels. Meta says it has a zero-tolerance policy and is improving defenses.
A US-based watchdog has identified 332 paid ads containing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on Meta’s Facebook and Instagram over the past 10 months, with a large share in August. The findings implicate ads promoting AI-generated CSAM and nudify apps, drawing responses from Indian authorities and Meta. Meta says it does not tolerate child exploitation and highlights its detection efforts.
