State police agency of New York, patrolling highways and rural areas with over 5,000 sworn troopers
Cornell University has suspended all parties and social events at Interfraternity Council houses through the 2026–27 academic year, has introduced a zero-tolerance enforcement policy, and has pledged to transfer criminal investigations to New York State Police while adding survivor support staff and outside reviewers to examine the university's handling of a 2024 sexual‑assault allegation.
New York Governor has announced an agreement with Cornell University and state police to refer sexual-offense complaints from campus police to state police for criminal investigations unless the accuser requests otherwise. Survivors may still choose Cornell Police, Ithaca Police, or Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office. The change follows scrutiny of Cornell’s handling of a 2024 Chi Phi case and ongoing legal actions. Independent reports that the policy is effective immediately, with a review by Sally Yates underway.
