Nottingham City Council has authorised police and protection officers to require the removal of non-religious face coverings where concealment of identity is used to commit crime or intimidate others. Offenders face fines up to £70 or prosecution up to £1,000. The policy, backed by a public spaces protection order, targets anti-social behaviour while exempting legitimate coverings.
