Ukraine has renewed long-range drone strikes targeting Wildberries warehouses across Russia, destroying stock worth billions and affecting tens of thousands of independent sellers who rely on the platform for livelihoods. The moves come as Kyiv aims to disrupt Russian logistics and pressure the home front.
A series of drone and missile incidents have escalated tensions across Ukraine and neighboring Romania. A large fire followed a drone strike on a civilian facility in Sumy region, while another strike hit a shopping center in Zaporizhzhia. Kyiv reports a major attack near a defense-industry site, with casualties and warnings of a possible large-scale missiles assault in the next 48 hours. Romania reports drones shot down near the border, marking ongoing regional drone incursions.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Russian forces have used ballistic missiles supplied by North Korea in strikes that hit the Zaporizhstal steel plant and other Ukrainian cities, killing at least seven workers and wounding others. Kyiv has also said Moscow is receiving more North Korean missiles and preparing to deploy more North Korean personnel on Russian territory. Allies are being urged to send more air-defence systems.
Since mid-July Ukrainian forces have struck more than a dozen Wildberries warehouses and other industrial sites deep inside Russia. Overnight strikes have hit a Wildberries warehouse in Samara and facilities across the Volga and southern regions, killing dozens on both sides, while Moscow says it downed hundreds of Ukrainian drones.
Ukraine has intensified strikes on Russian oil facilities deep inside Russia, hitting refineries in Bashneft-Novoil and Slavneft-Yanos, and carrying out Black Sea operations against vessels. The moves aim to disrupt Moscow’s war-financing oil revenues as fighting continues and civilian infrastructure faces pressure.
Ukraine has handed proposals to US negotiators for a plan to end the war with Russia. Zelenskyy states the US can strengthen Ukraine’s defences, especially air defences, to press Moscow toward peace. Kremlin leaders indicate willingness to negotiate only if Russia’s four claimed regions are fully ceded and root causes addressed. Separately, Washington reports a freed American detainee after a Russian decision to release on humanitarian grounds.
Russia has held a three-day parliamentary election from Sept. 18–20 that is set to return a United Russia-dominated State Duma. Most anti-war candidates were barred, the liberal Yabloko party was disqualified from the nationwide list, voting is being held in Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine, and Moscow reported large drone attacks and a sustained cyberattack on electronic voting in the capital.
Russia has completed a three-day parliamentary vote that has delivered a record super‑majority to President Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party. The Central Election Commission has allocated roughly 349–355 of 450 seats to United Russia, with turnout near 57–60%. Voting included residents of occupied Ukrainian regions and took place against a backdrop of heavy Ukrainian drone attacks.
