Bolivian biologist and conservation researcher. Became a focal point after identifying a new Bengal tiger-cat species, Tilcayo, in Bolivia’s Yungas forest. Her work centers on species discovery and wildlife protection.
Researchers have confirmed Leopardus tilcayo as a distinct tiger-cat species from Bolivia, based on genetic data. The cat measures about 46 cm in length and weighs around 1.4 kg. Five tiger-cat lineages are now recognised, expanding the group beyond the previously accepted three species. The discovery highlights biodiversity in South American mountain forests and the need for conservation.
