Malibu promontory facing the Pacific, a natural landmark at the northern end of Santa Monica Bay.
Coastal erosion from high tides and powerful surf has closed Westward Beach Road beyond the toll gate and the Point Dume Beach parking lot in Malibu. Erosion has damaged a water line serving restrooms, prompting temporary facilities and safety warnings. Officials warn the bluff edge remains unstable with drop-offs up to 8 feet; there is no estimated reopening date.
