Indian biotech giant and vaccine powerhouse
A UK-Oxford vaccine candidate has begun Phase I testing in healthy volunteers to assess safety and immune response. The work leverages the same technology as the Oxford–AstraZeneca Covid jab. Trials are planned in Africa with regional partners as the outbreak continues in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Democratic Republic of Congo has been allocated 70,000 Ervebo Ebola vaccine doses by the ICG. Twenty thousand will enter a Phase III trial against Bundibugyo virus, while 50,000 will go to frontline health workers. The outbreak is accelerating, with thousands of cases and hundreds of deaths, and no vaccine exists specifically for Bundibugyo.
