Journalists were briefly barred Thursday despite the order; the administration says it needed time to reinstate badges as Chinese leader Xi Jinping visited Washington.
Several outlets have filed to block enforcement of a ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico, arguing it violates First and Fifth Amendment rights. A district court has ordered temporary restoration of access for 14 days while the case proceeds.
