A Volkswagen Passat carrying five passengers drove the wrong way on the A66 near South Bank, Middlesbrough, colliding with a Cleveland Police vehicle. Both officers and five members of the public have died. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has opened an investigation. The crash happened in the early hours of Saturday; the police pursuit reportedly ended before the collision.
