The White House has privately funded a granite helipad on the South Lawn to accommodate the new VH-92A Patriot helicopters and protect the lawn from heat damage. Construction is underway, with Sikorsky Aircraft paying up to $6 million and claiming the effort will allow the fleet to land safely and retire older helicopters.
