How we got here
Pickaxe Mountain, or Kuh-e Kolang Gaz La, lies near Natanz in Iran’s central plateau. Construction began after earlier sabotage at Natanz in 2020 and intensified through 2025-2026. U.S. and Israeli air campaigns have targeted other sites, but Pickaxe Mountain has largely remained outside major strikes to date. The IAEA has not gained access to the site, and satellite imagery suggests deep underground construction capable of housing enrichment and related activities.
